Mental Health Physiotherapy is an area where physiotherapists specialise. Physiotherapy is associated with treating physical problems, but can also have benefit to a person’s mental health condition. Physical exercise and hands on treatments such as massages can beneficial to the patient making them feel better about themselves, lifting mood and making them feel more relaxed. Some of the mental health conditions which are seen by Physiotherapists are:
- Depression
- Bipolar
- Schizophrenia
- Dementia
Mental Health Physiotherapists do not only provide physical treatments they can act as a counsellor due to the rapport which is built between the patient and the physiotherapist. People who have Mental Health Conditions can also develop injuries which could benefit from Physiotherapy but with the addition of their Mental Health Condition would benefit from specialised Mental Health Physiotherapy. Some of the treatments which can be of benefit to the Patient are:
