Physiotherapist
A Physiotherapist is a health care professional who has completed a recognised qualification in Physiotherapy and registered with the Health Professions Council. Physiotherapists must register with the Health Professions council to prove they are fit to practice as a qualified Physiotherapist.
Physiotherapists work with patients to improve their function and restore normal movement. They look at maximising a patients potential through assessment and rehabilitation through a variety of treatments. Treatments may include the following:
- Exercise Therapy
- Manual Therapy
- Hydrotherapy
- Massage
- Self-management strategies
- Acupuncture
- Electrotherapy
Physiotherapists can work as part of a team alongside other health care professionals, providing a high quality service to the patients. Patients who would benefit from a Physiotherapists experience are:
- Respiratory conditions
- Musculoskeletal conditions (sporting injuries)
- Neurological conditions
- Women’s Health problems
- Paediatric conditions
- Surgery rehabilitation
All of these conditions and injuries may benefit from a Physiotherapist’s experience. As Physiotherapists progresses through their career they will specialise in one of the above areas to provide a more specialised service to the patients. Some Physiotherapist’s may undergo further training to offer patients additional specialised treatments which could be of benefit.
