Physiotherapy for Abdominal pain
Abdominal pain is pain which is felt around the lower torso. There can be many reasons for abdominal pain to begin, the majority of which are minor whereas a small number will require urgent medical attention. Some of causes of abdominal pain could be:
- Gastrointestinal (appendicitis, diverticulitis, hernia, haemorrhage)
- Bile system
- Liver
- Pancreatic (pancreatitis)
- Renal system (bladder infection)
- Gynaecological (ectopic pregnancy, tumour, menstruation)
- Muscular
- Referred pain
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
The intensity of abdominal pain can vary from person to person dependent upon the cause. The majority of abdominal pain tends to be due to a minor untreatable cause such as IBS, the more serious cases such as appendicitis could have major complications if medical attention in not sought, whereas causes such as muscle strain can be treated with Physiotherapy. If the cause of abdominal pain is unknown then a medical opinion may be advisable.
