Physiotherapy for Buttock Surgery

Buttock surgery is where the surgeon performs a surgical procedure around the buttock area. This may be for cosmetic reasons or as a treatment. Some of the common surgeries which people undergo can include the following:
  • Muscle repair
  • Buttock enlargement (implants)
  • Buttock reduction
  • Sarcomere removal
Depending upon the surgeon’s and the anaesthetist’s clinical judgement will depend upon the type of anaesthetic the patient will have in order for the procedure to go ahead. When people are planed to have buttock surgery they will have to have a form of anaesthetic. This comes with its own risks as the body’s normal function is altered. Post surgery it is important to try and prevent DVT’s and to increase mobility as soon as the surgeon advices. Some of the Physiotherapy interventions post buttock surgery can include:
  • Bed exercises
  • Mobility progression
  • Walking aid provision
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Stretching exercises
  • Pain management
  • Electrotherapy
It is important to rehabilitated post buttock surgery as the buttocks are the main large muscles which help to drive the body forward during gait. Experienced Physiotherapists will assess and provide a rehabilitation programme for the individual to participant in with the therapist and in their own time.
