Physiotherapy for Forearm Pain



Forearm pain is pain which occurs between the elbow and the wrist. Injuries at the forearm can be due to a traumatic accident or as an overuse repetitive movement. Forearm pain can be debilitating for the individual as simple tasks such as writing and lifting a cup can become painful. There are a variety of injuries which can be the cause of forearm pain including:
  • Medial epicondylitis
  • Lateral epicondylitis
  • Fracture
  • Dislocation
  • Nerve compression
  • Contusion
  • Arthritis
Physiotherapy can offer a rationale as to why forearm pain is being experienced. An experienced Physiotherapist will provide a comprehensive assessment around the forearm to come to a conclusion of what is causing the forearm pain. Some of the physiotherapeutic interventions for forearm pain can include:
  • Exercise
  • Manual therapy
  • Massage
  • Electrotherapy
  • Acupuncture
Usually a combination of all of the above interventions is used to alleviate the forearm pain experienced.
