Physiotherapy for Head Pain

Head pain is pain which is experienced around the head and upper neck. There can be a variety of reasons for a person to experience head pain. Some of them can include:
  • Muscle tension
  • Myofascial tension
  • Blow to the head
  • Concussion
  • Migraine
Some of these causes of head pain can have long lasting problematic symptoms such as muscle tightness and Myofascial tension as these structural causes can be due to a person’s occupation and posture which are difficult to alter. Nerves can cause chronic pains if long term irritation through tight and shortened structures is an issue. Some of the treatments which can be used to treat head pain are:
  • Medication
  • Heat and cold therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Massage
  • Myofascial tissue release techniques
  • Postural advice
  • Exercises
  • Electrotherapy
Some of the treatments for head pain can be combined such as Myofascial tissue release, massage, trigger point therapy and exercise to provide the patient with the best possible package of care. A combination of treatments enables the patient to get the most out of a treatment session and they can continue participating in active treatment themselves within their home environment.
