Hip Pain is pain which is experienced in and around the hip region. There are a variety of reasons as to why a person may have hip pain. Some injuries can be due to an overuse wear and tear mechanism whereas others may be due to a traumatic accident through normal activities of daily living or a sporting injury. Some of the common causes of hip pain are:
- Pelvic stress fractures
- Stress fracture of the hip joint (femur / acetabulum)
- Muscular strain / rupture
- Weak hip muscles
- Arthritis
- Bursitis
- Altered biomechanics
Some of these causes of hip pain may be as a result of an acute injury or as a repetitive stress on the joint. Treatment aims to look at alleviating pain, optimising healing and facilitating normal recovery. Hip pain can be treated with a course of Physiotherapy. Physiotherapy can provide different treatment modalities to help alleviate hip pain, some of the treatments can include:

- Acupuncture
After a comprehensive assessment, Physiotherapists will be able to provide a rationale as to what structures are causing the hip pain and provide a rehabilitation programme for the individual.
