Physiotherapy for Inflammation

What is Inflammation?

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury, irritation or infection. Inflammation is the natural protective mechanism to destroy foreign bodies and dead cells at an injury/infection site to initiate the healing process. The inflammation period can last from several hours to several weeks into the healing process. The capillary walls dilate allowing an increased volume of blood and white cells to the effected site to stimulate healing. This process is known as the inflammation phase. Prescribed medication, Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs and conservative modalities can help assist the inflammation process with medical supervision.

Diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis can also cause inflammation at joints which can cause irritation to joints which again causes more inflammation. Inflammation at joints can cause the flowing signs and symptoms:
  • Redness
  • Pain
