Physiotherapy for Upper Arm Pain
Upper arm pain is pain which occurs between the shoulder and the elbow. Upper arm pain can cause the individual a great amount of stress and discomfort, preventing them from participating in activities of daily living pain free. Some of the main causes of upper arm pain can include:
- Muscle strain / rupture
- Contusion
- Fracture
- Referred pain from the neck or shoulder
- Nerve injury
These injuries are common in both the sporting population and the general public. They are both prevented from fully functioning pain free due to their upper arm pain. Physiotherapy can offer treatment which can help to reduce upper arm pain. Some of the treatments can include:
- Exercise
- Manual therapy
- Massage
- Electrotherapy
- Acupuncture
- Heat and cold therapy
These treatments will be given upon assessment of the upper arm pain by the Physiotherapist. The aim of the treatment will be to alleviate upper arm pain, improve function, and optimise healing. They could be provided with a home rehabilitation programme for self management purposes of their upper arm pain.
