Physiotherapy for Wrist Pain
Wrist pain is pain that occurs below the forearm and before the hand begins, but can radiate either way. Wrist pain is a common symptom which can happen for a number of reasons. Some of the most common causes of wrist pain are:
- Fracture
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Ligament sprain / rupture
- Arthritis
- Tendinitis
- Ganglion cyst
These causes of wrist pain can be quite common and can have a debilitating effect on the individual. Wrist pain can decrease the range of movement at the joint, producing swelling and decreasing the strength at the joint. This can prevent the individual from participating in normal activities of daily living. Physiotherapy can help to alleviate wrist pain through a variety of treatments. Some of the common treatments which can be used to treat wrist pain are:

- Massage
- Electrotherapy
- Acupuncture
- Manual therapy
These treatments can help to alleviate wrist pain, some of the treatments can be done by the individual independently at home as part of a self management programme. Qualified experienced Physiotherapists will assess the wrist pain and provide a rehabilitation programme as appropriate.
