The neck or the cervical spine distinguishes the head from the trunk. The cervical spine consists of seven bony segments, from C-1 to C-7, with cartilaginous discs in between each vertebral body. The neck supports the weight of the head and protects the spinal cord. The neck is also very flexible and allows the head to turn in all directions.
