The lower back contains the lumbar spine and the pelvis. The lumbar spine is comprised of vertebral bodies, discs, spinal cord, ligaments and muscles, to support the body weight and provide flexibility. The lumbar spine is curved inwards (lordosis) to connect the spine to the pelvis and provide an upright posture. The lower back is a common site of injury due to poor posture, muscle imbalance and disc problems.
